V O X

As always, Vollenweider's new episode offers innovative and surprising elements: On this album, he is featured both as an instrumentalist and as a singer of his personal song lyrics. The album title “VOX” refers to the voice as an instrument, but also to the many other ways in which the voice can be used: for example in speaking up and expressing what we feel both in our personal environment and far beyond.
Vollenweider: "I think, we people have been much too quiet for much too long! It is a good time to raise the voice…!"

Daniel Kueffer: organ
Erdal Kizilcay: acoustic bass guitar

You set me free
Under my fathers tree
Gently lifted all my shadows
Here where I stand
With only a handful of you
Weighing less than a sparrow
Yet more than my life

First of my days
You sent me off on to this journey
to become
A Pilgrim on the path of love

You will be the mountains I will climb
You will be the rivers I will cross
I will be the voice to tell your tale

You will be the beggar I will feed
You will be the dragon I will calm
And I will be the voice to tell your tale

And I shall not be sad…

In the garden of hope
Far from songs of pride and victory
You kept a place
For the simple melodies
Broken, the wings - Shattered, the dreams
And still you’re walking strong
You’ve always been
The Pilgrim on the path of love

You will be the desert I will cross
You will be the storm that I will ride
I will be the voice to tell your tale
You will be the rivers I will cross
You will be the mountains I will climb
I will be the voice to tell your tale
You will be the words that I will find
You will be the strength to still be kind

And I shall not be sad…

Calling these hearts of gold
Calling your hearts of gold
When my soul stands stripped and bare
Dark words tangled Low lights flare
 II will raise my voice
I will call these hearts of gold
Calling these hearts of gold
Missing your hearts of gold

When the morning weighs the day
And the flame is cold and gray
You will hear my voice
I will call these hearts of gold

When all birds have left -
Sad quietness
And visions drown in selfishness
I will use my voice
I will call these hearts of gold
Speak to your heart of gold
Calling your heart of gold
Speak to your heart of gold
Patience my heart of gold

Coming home, quiet night
The house is dark and still
Silently I sit beside your bed
For an hour or for two

So far, and still, a breath away
If only I could break - the seal
And take away the weight of time

All the words that fear the bright light
All the wounded loving thoughts
Safely wrapped in silent darkness
Wish your dream had paper walls

The moon, she takes my shadow
Lays it gently beside you
For this moment, it is not for long
Dawn will call me off again

All the words that fear the bright light
All the thoughts, the orphaned songs
Longing for this silent darkness -
hope tonight your dreams have paper walls
And you can hear my song
So you can hear my song

(to my children)
Andreas Vollenweider: vocals, electroacoustic harp, electric & acoustic guitar
Zoé Mikuleczky: vocals
Erdal Kizilcay: bass
Andi Pupato: percussion

Stains of blood on sacred land -
a sad and broken land
A thousand life lines brought to end -
oh, once so promising
A thousand dreamers lost to war -
a disgraceful kind of war
Don’t let it hurt you anymore -
no more hurt, no more…

Take down these ancient walls of guilt -
that suffocating guilt
Our father’s fathers once have built -
take them down -
Tear them all down…

Now raise your head and set your sail -
your beautiful sail
Just remember that you are

You’re innocent before you fail
If you ever would -
if you ever will…
Just open your wings And feel the breath -
of a greater love
A love that is waiting for you
So unconditionally -
at the other end of time
I’ll be waiting for you -
so patiently

Don’t let them drown you in their shame
Always remember that you are
You’re innocent before you fail

Now raise your head and walk you path
And just remember that you are
You’re innocent before you fail
If you ever would - If you ever will…
Just open wide your wings
And feel the breath - of a greater love
Send away the wicked fool
With all his seeds of doubt - and a legacy of tears
Love is waiting for you So unconditionally -
at the other end of time
And I’m still waiting for you
So patiently - at the other end of night

Martin Tillmann: electric cello
Silver Symphony & Choir, cond. Andreas Vollenweider

But in a black cat’s eyes
A cold moons fire flames
A stream of tiny sparks above
Is bending the mighty skies
And the soft blade of a loving touch
Cuts the dark rock
And with the flower of your silent smile
You sweeten the bitter song

Ripples in a lake of time – passages and alleyways
Ripples in a lake of time – fading through
Ripples in a lake of time – you and me

And when the raging river finally rests
It mirrors the clouds unborn
And in the black cats eyes
The coldest moon burns high

Ripples in a lake of time – passages and alleyways
Ripples in a lake of time – leaving footprints, vanishing
Ripples in a lake of time – alleyways and passages
Ripples in a lake of time – passages and alleyways
Ripples in a lake of time – passing through
Ripples in a lake of time – you and me
